From August 1st, 2023, more than 300 types of medicines produced or retailed in India will be required to bear a web-linked dynamic QR code or barcode, primarily on their primary packaging. The Power of Web-Linked QR Codes and Barcodes
Under the new Drugs Rules, pharmaceutical companies must incorporate a dynamic QR code or barcode on the primary packaging label or secondary package label, containing eight sets of crucial data for each medicine's lowest sellable unit. 
These Quick Response code that store data or readable information on its label at each level packaging,  will be instrumental in facilitating authentication and verifying the legitimacy of medicines throughout their supply chain via software application to facilitate tracking and tracing.

The minimum required information encoded within the barcode or QR code is comprehensive, ensuring complete transparency and traceability:

🔹 Unique Product Identification Code: Each drug will have a distinct identity, aiding in swift and accurate identification.
🔹 Proper and Generic Drug Names: Providing both proper and generic names guarantees clarity and avoids confusion.
🔹 Brand Name of the Drug: Ensuring that consumers receive the exact product they trust and rely on.
🔹 Manufacturer's Name and Address: Enabling easy verification of the drug's origin and source.
🔹 Batch Number: Assisting in quality control and product recalls if necessary.
🔹 Date of Manufacturing: Enhancing traceability and allowing for the monitoring of product shelf life.
🔹 Date of Expiry: Safeguarding consumers against expired medicines and potential health risks.
🔹 Manufacturing License Number: Validating the manufacturer's authorization and compliance with regulations.
