E-Waste Management and Handling Rules
E-waste is considered hazardous when approaching the end of their useful existence because certain electronic product components, depending on their condition and density, contain hazardous substances.
The toxicity of these substances poses a threat to human health and the environment.
Computers, refrigerators, laundry machines, televisions, VCRs, stereos, copiers, fax machines, electric lighting, cell phones, audio equipment, and other electronic items and batteries can discharge lead and other substances into soil and groundwater if discarded inappropriately.
Numerous of these products can be repurposed, refurbished, or recycled in an eco-friendly manner to reduce their impact on the environment.
Benefit of E-Waste Recycling
Electronics Recycling Conserves Natural Resources
There are many materials that can be recovered from old electronics. These materials can be used to make new products, thus reducing the need to mine for new raw materials. For instance, various metals can be recovered from computer circuit boards and other electronics, and the plastics and glass found in computer monitors and televisions can be recycled.
Electronics Recycling Supports the Community
Donating your old electronics plays an important role in the provision of refurbished products such as computers and mobile phones, which can be of great help to low-income families, schools, and not-for-profit organizations. It also helps individuals gain access to technology that they could not have otherwise forded.
Electronics Recycling Creates Employment Locally
Considering that around90 percent of electronic equipments recyclable, electronics recycling can play a significant role in creating employment. This is because new firms dealing with electronics recycling will form and existing firms will look to employ more people to recover recyclable materials. This can be triggered by the increase in the demand for electronics recycling.
Electronics Recycling Helps Protect Public Health and the Environment
Many electronics have toxic or hazardous materials such as mercury and lead, which can be harmful to the environment if disposed of in trashcans. Reusing and recycling electronics safely helps in keeping the hazardous materials from harming humans or the environment. For example, televisions and computer monitors are hazardous since they have lead in them. Printed circuit boards contain harmful materials such as cadmium, lead, mercury and chromium. Also, batteries in computers and other electronics may contain hazardous materials such as cadmium, mercury and lead. Instead of keeping old electronics in the house or dumping them in landfills, recycling or reusing them is an appropriate option that should be supported by individuals and organizations. Considering the benefits of electronics recycling, it is very important that people in various parts around the world embrace this concept.
E-waste recycling creates new jobs for professional PRO and creates a second Market for the recycled materials.

Handling & Disposal of E-waste (Do’s & Don’ts)
Always look for information on the catalogue with your product for end-of-life equipment handling.
Ensure that only Authorized PRO/Dismantler handle your electronic (i.e. LED TV’s and accessories) products.
Always call at our toll-free No’s to Dispose products that have reached end-of life.
Always drop your used electronic products, batteries or any accessories when they reach the end of their life at your nearest Authorized E-Waste Collection Points.
Always disconnect the battery from product, and ensure any glass surface is protected against breakage.
Do’s
Do not dismantle your electronic products on your own, head down to the nearest store to let professionals sort the dismantling for you.
Do not throw electronics in bins having “Do not Dispose” sign.
Do not give e-waste to informal and unorganized sectors like Local Scrap Dealer/ Rag Pickers.
Do not dispose your product in garbage bins along with municipal waste that ultimately reaches landfills.
Don’ts
Conservation of Resources:
Manufacturing requires raw material, which in turn comes from mining of precious natural resources. When we recycle an end-of-life product in an authorized and organized environment, we not only reproduce resources from extraction from dead devices, we also contribute towards reducing the mining of fresh natural resources. This leads to conservation of natural resources.Saves Energy:
Recycling reduces the overall manufacturing cycle of the product since the enormous amount of energy spent on mining of fresh resources, their transportation and refining is prevented. Rather we get resources that have already gone through the refining cycle and are ready for consumption in the production cycle again.Lesser Landfilling & Prevention of Pollution:
End-of-life electronic devices if dumped into landfills can cause havoc with the ecosystem and severely harm the environment leading to air, water and soil pollution. Safely recycled E-waste on the other hand prevents such pollution.
Why do we need to recycle electronic devices?
Why is recycling/ safe disposal of Electronic waste important?
Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) contain hazardous substances such as lead, mercury, chromium, PBR etc. Therefore, when E-waste is disposed-off through regular household trash, it runs the risk of improper handling & breakage, thus posing a threat to the environment. Other materials contained in the electronic waste such as glass, metals and plastic also adversely affect the environment when disposed-off in landfills.
How can I return my end-of-life devices to the company?
There are various options available to you to return your end-of-life electronic devices to the Company through our various Collection Schemes. We also provide pickup of E-waste from your location. We also have e-waste collection points in various states. You can deposit your electronic waste at a collection point near your location. To know about your nearest collection point, dial our Toll Free Helpline 1800-121-9575.
Does the Company offer any incentive to the consumer who returns the end-of-life electronic equipment to the company?
Ensuring safe disposal of end-of-life electronic devices should be the responsibility of each and every citizen of the country. A cleaner and greener environment is in the interest of all of us and our children. However, the Company does offer a buy back amount on an end-of-life printer. Alternately, you can get a discount on purchase of any new product of the company in return for an end-of-life printer. The Buyback or Exchange amount is determined after evaluation of the condition of used device.
What does the Company do with the end-of-life electronic devices?
The Company follows a stringent mechanism to dismantle and recycle the E-waste in a safe and secure manner. E-waste collected at our various collection points is channelized to our authorized E-waste Recyclers who then dismantle and recycle the end-of-life device in an organized environment following all Government norms and procedures. The entire process ensures that not even a trace of electronic waste goes into landfills.
